Jake Blauvelt: World Class Athlete, Spiritual Cat
Jake Blauvelt grew up in Vermont riding Bolton Valley and Stowe, where his technical skills and massive airs earned him podium finishes throughout his teens. His biggest win came in 2004 when he won the prestigious U.S. Open at age 17. He moved west to Mammoth, then Tahoe, before settling in Bellingham near Mt. Baker—the deepest resort in the contiguous United States—where he mastered powder and backcountry riding. Over the next decade, Jake produced award-winning video parts with Forum, Absinthe and Snowboarder Magazine, with his solo film project "Naturally" catapulting him to the sport's upper echelon.
Eventually, Jake returned to Vermont where he lives with his daughter Nell and wife Kristin, an organic chef and restaurant owner. He grows his own food, practices yoga and carpentry, and plays soccer. Together, Jake and Kristin founded the Mountain Light Project, a non-profit that partners with the American Alpine Institute to provide free avalanche and backcountry education to youth.
